Summary of Early History of the Disciples in the Western Reserve

Early History of the Disciples in the Western Reserve chronicles the beginnings of the Restoration Movement in Northeast Ohio. Hayden records the efforts of those early preachers — some of whom have been largely forgotten by our generation — and the methods that were used to advance the cause of the gospel.

This volume contains valuable lessons from both the successes and shortcomings of these men who forsook the churches of men and endeavored to return to the pattern found in the New Testament.

B. C. Goodpasture, in his foreword to Earl Irvin West’s Search for the Ancient Order, listed Early History of the Disciples in the Western Reserve, along side Robert Richardson’s Memoirs of Alexander Campbell, as a principle source of Restoration history. If you do not have a copy of Hayden’s book, it is a good reference to have in your library.

This is a public domain work which was originally published in 1875.
